July 25, 1953, was a red-letter night in the history of Concord - the first time the Concord Electric Co. illuminated bright electric lights that replaced the far dimmer gas lights on Main Street.

A photographer for Concord Electric Co. took this photo on July 25, 1953,to record the first night electric lights illuminated Main Street, replacing gas lights. The photographer stood on South Main Street, about where the Eagles clubhouse is located, and captured the lights stretching to the north.
